Congratulations to Maureen Moore for receiving Summa cum Laude honors in her Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition degree. After 10 years as a CPA and human resources manager in public accounting, Maureen left her career to raise a family. While diagnosed with gestational diabetes during her first pregnancy, she became interested in how food interacts with the body and what causes blood sugar to rise. It was her first lesson in how diet can create either optimal health or contribute to long term risk of disease. Due to the discovery of allergies and other related health issues in her family, she researched nutrition and wellness on her own over the next 8 years. Her family has overcome chronic ear infections, hyperactivity, congestion, leaky gut syndrome, and gastrointestinal distress. All of this motivated her to enroll in Hawthorn University. While in school, she worked at Brain Balance helping families clean up their diets and design menus around diagnosed food allergies. She set out to change her family one meal at a time. Now, she is turning her sights further into the community and schools, ready to help others. Armed with an arsenal of recipes and a passion for health, she hopes to support families and children with autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other neurological disorders. Her acquired knowledge is evidenced in her thesis, The Modified Ketogenic Diet as a Natural Therapy for Alzheimer's Disease. Great work, Maureen!
