Carol Caughlan Schulley

Congratulations to Carol Caughlan Schulley for earning Summa cum Laude in the Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition program. Carol also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities from La Roche College and a teaching certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences from Immaculata University. She has been teaching middle school and high school for 10 years and is a member of Berks County Family and Consumer Sciences. Carol is also the secretary of her local chapter of Toastmasters International and is active in Girls on the Run at Kutztown Area Middle School as well as a member of the mentoring program at Kutztown Area High School. Carol’s attention was drawn to holistic nutrition as she observed her students developing poor nutritional habits, and a decrease in focus and interest in school. Carol firmly believes that many ailments can be alleviated or relieved by focusing on positive dietary habits, and beneficial nutritional and lifestyle habits should be started as early in life as possible. This observation led her to Hawthorn to learn more about nutrition. She believes that "the key to proper nutrition is education" and Carol's goal is to give students the tools and skills they need to make informed food and lifestyle choices. Her thesis is entitled: Effect of Eating Breakfast on Classroom Behavior in Middle School Children and gives evidence to her newly acquired knowledge. Keep up the good work, Carol!
